Orange Opaque PVC and 90gsm PVDC Composite Film, High Barrier, for Pharmaceutical Packaging.

Orange opaque PVC and 90gsm PVDC composite film is a preferred high-barrier material in the field of pharmaceutical blister packaging.  It uses orange PVC as the base material and 90gsm PVDC as the barrier layer, combining excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties, light shielding, easy processing, and safety compliance. It is suitable for the long-term stable preservation of various drugs such as tablets and capsules. The following sections provide details on material characteristics, core advantages, application scenarios, production processes, and standards.

Material Structure and Key Parameters

The orange opaque PVC, as the composite base material, typically has a thickness of 0.25-0.40mm.  Through a special color matching process, it achieves an opaque orange color, providing both light shielding and meeting the identification requirements of pharmaceutical packaging. 90gsm PVDC (polyvinylidene chloride) is uniformly coated on the PVC surface. PVDC molecules contain a large number of polar chlorine atoms and have high crystallinity, making it a recognized high-barrier material. The coating weight of 90g/m² is a common specification for high-barrier grades in pharmaceutical packaging, significantly improving the overall oxygen and moisture barrier capabilities. The composite film is commonly available in widths of 60-1000mm, compatible with different specifications of blister packaging equipment, and maintains similar flexibility and rigidity to ordinary PVC rigid sheets, requiring no significant adjustments to processing parameters.

Core Performance Advantages

Excellent Barrier Performance: The 90gsm PVDC coating allows the composite film to achieve a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) as low as <0.1g/(m²・d) and an oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of <5cm³/(m²・d・atm). The barrier effect is 10-15 times that of ordinary PVC, effectively preventing drug moisture absorption, oxidation, and mildew, extending the shelf life to more than 2 years, especially suitable for humid and hot regions and drugs sensitive to humidity and oxygen.

Double Light Shielding Protection: The orange PVC base material can block most visible light, and the PVDC coating has a UV blocking rate of 99%. This double protection prevents light-induced degradation of drug components, making it suitable for drugs that require light-shielding storage. Excellent Processing Adaptability: The composite sheet is easy to thermoform and has a fast heat-sealing speed, making it directly compatible with existing PVC blister packaging equipment without the need for equipment replacement, reducing production conversion costs for enterprises. Furthermore, after a single blister is opened, adjacent medications remain unaffected, achieving a "personalized packaging" effect.

Safety and Chemical Stability: Compliant with pharmaceutical standards, with low vinyl chloride monomer content and low easily oxidizable substances. PVDC can directly contact medications, exhibiting strong chemical inertness and not reacting with the active ingredients of the drugs, ensuring medication safety.

Drug Packaging Application Scenarios

Solid Dosage Packaging: It is the mainstream material for blister packaging of solid dosage forms such as tablets and capsules, including antibiotics, vitamins, and antipyretic analgesics, preventing medication from deliquescence, oxidation, and failure due to environmental factors.

Special Medication Packaging: Suitable for medications that are extremely sensitive to oxygen, humidity, and light, such as mRNA vaccines and biological preparations. Its high barrier and light-shielding properties maintain the stability of the active ingredients and reduce losses during storage and transportation.

Multi-Dose Independent Packaging: Suitable for medications that require multiple uses. The single-dose independent sealing design reduces contamination and waste after opening, improving convenience and safety of medication use.

Key Production Process Points

Substrate Preparation: Pharmaceutical-grade PVC resin is processed into orange opaque rigid sheets through calendering or extrusion.  Thickness uniformity and impurity content are controlled to ensure no crystal points or significant defects.

PVDC Coating: Using quantitative coating technology, 90gsm PVDC emulsion is evenly coated on the surface of the PVC substrate.  Drying and curing form a dense barrier layer, ensuring the coating is free of agglomeration and flow lines.

Post-Processing: The composite sheet undergoes slitting, inspection, and other processes to control width and length accuracy, and to test barrier properties, heat-sealing strength, and other indicators to ensure compliance with pharmaceutical packaging quality standards.
