  • Information

The thickness and structure of each layer of the PVC card base film are based on standard cards (total thickness 0.76±0.02mm). The parameters of the wear-resistant layer, printing layer, and core layer are as follows:

Wear-resistant layer (transparent laminate film / adhesive film)

Thickness range: 0.04–0.10mm (40–100μm), mainstream 0.06–0.08mm, thickened versions can reach 0.15mm.

Function: Scratch-resistant, wear-resistant, stain-resistant, protects the printing layer; commonly available in glossy/matte/frosted finishes, some with UV curing or KCC surface adhesive treatment to improve durability.

Structure: Single-sided with heat-activated adhesive, heat-sealed with the printing layer during lamination, peel strength ≥6.0N/cm.

Printing layer (including white card base/color base)

Thickness range: The printing ink layer is extremely thin (1–10μm), the carrier white card base thickness is 0.15–0.36mm; commonly used 0.25–0.30mm white card base, providing a base for color reproduction.

Process: Offset printing, screen printing, digital printing, compatible with CMYK/Pantone, resolution ≥300dpi, requires resistance to high lamination temperatures without fading.

Combination: Can be printed on both sides of the white card base, or printed in mirror image on the back of a transparent film base before lamination.

Core layer (middle support layer)

Thickness range: 0.30–0.60mm, standard cards commonly use 0.30–0.36mm; when multi-layer composite, 0.15–0.25mm thin core layers can be added to adjust the total thickness.

Material: Solid PVC or filled PVC, requiring a balance of rigidity and toughness, no deformation or delamination after lamination.

Variations: For cards with IC chips/magnetic strips, the core layer has reserved grooves or a composite thin insulating layer, with the thickness slightly adjusted to 0.80–0.84mm. Total Thickness and Lamination Combination Examples

Combination Type | Wear Layer | Print Layer Carrier | Core Layer | Total Thickness

Standard Card | Double-sided 0.06mm × 2 | 0.25mm White Card Base | 0.30mm | 0.76mm

Thick Card | Double-sided 0.08mm × 2 | 0.30mm White Card Base | 0.36mm | 0.84mm

Thin Card | Single-sided 0.05mm | 0.18mm White Card Base | 0.15mm | 0.38mm

Key Notes

The total thickness tolerance after lamination is ±0.02mm, ensuring compatibility with reading and writing equipment and smooth insertion and removal.

In the non-lamination process, printed film (0.25–0.30mm) + double-sided adhesive film (0.20mm) + core layer (0.30mm) can also achieve an equivalent thickness of 0.76mm.

Our PVC card base film is suitable for offset printing/screen printing, resistant to high temperatures during lamination without fading, and suitable for large-volume card production and customized orders.

Thickness tolerance: ±0.01mm, wear layer peel strength ≥6.0N/cm, compatible with high-speed lamination and reading/writing equipment.
