Exceptional Thermoformability: When heated to 120-180°C, the sheet softens uniformly and exhibits excellent ductility. It can easily conform to the contours of tray molds (including those with ribs, compartments, or raised edges) without cracking or uneven thickness. This allows for the mass production of trays with consistent dimensions—critical for standardized packaging and storage.
Balanced Mechanical Strength: It combines moderate rigidity and good impact resistance. Trays made from this sheet can withstand the weight of loaded items (e.g., fresh produce, industrial parts) without deformation, while also resisting breakage from accidental drops during transportation. Unlike brittle materials (such as some PS sheets), it maintains toughness even in low-temperature environments (down to -10°C for modified grades), making it suitable for frozen food trays.
Food-Grade Safety & Chemical Resistance: Food-contact-grade PP thermoforming sheets comply with global standards (e.g., FDA, EU 10/2011) — they are non-toxic, odorless, and do not release harmful substances when in contact with food (including acidic, oily, or hot foods). Additionally, the sheet is resistant to weak acids, weak alkalis, and common food additives, preventing staining or material degradation from spills (e.g., fruit juices, sauces).
Lightweight & Cost-Effective: With a density of only 0.90-0.91 g/cm³, PP is one of the lightest thermoplastics. Trays made from it are lighter than those from PVC or PET sheets, reducing transportation costs. Meanwhile, the mature production process of PP sheets and high material utilization (minimal waste during thermoforming) lower overall manufacturing costs for tray producers.
Recyclability & Sustainability: PP is fully recyclable. Waste PP trays or leftover sheet material can be crushed, melted, and reprocessed into low-demand tray products (e.g., industrial storage trays), aligning with environmental protection goals and circular economy initiatives.
