Vegetable seedlings are mostly made of polystyrene, which has the characteristics of anti-brittle cracking, aging resistance, and non-deformation.
GPPS: It has high transparency, rigidity and chemical resistance, and is suitable for making hard seedling trays that need to be reused. It is especially stable in winter and spring seedlings, but it needs to be combined with electric heating lines to improve the insulation effect in low temperature environments.
EPS: Lightweight and good heat insulation, commonly used in floating seedling trays (such as Abstract 6), can float directly in the nutrient solution, and is suitable for large-scale seedling cultivation of vegetables such as eggplants and leafy vegetables.
Performance characteristics
Advantages: aging resistance, non-deformation, light and easy to carry, suitable for large-scale production and mechanized operation
Limitations: Ordinary PS may become brittle at low temperatures, and process improvements (such as adding impact modifiers) or combined with heating measures are required
Environmental protection and substitution trends
Polystyrene mulch may be limited due to poor degradability, but seedling trays are mostly reused and have little impact on the environment.
Degradable materials (such as polylactic acid) are gradually being promoted, but their costs are relatively high and require comprehensive policy and economic selection.
