Excellent heat-sealing performance

The biggest enemies of room-temperature food are oxygen, moisture, and dust. Oxygen causes nuts to oxidize and harden, and cakes to soften. Moisture causes cookies to absorb moisture and change their flavor. Dust directly impacts food safety. PVC shrink tubing/sleeves, when heated and shrunk, achieve a seamless fit:

The tube shrinks tightly around the container, sealing even the gaps at the jar opening to prevent air from infiltrating through the joints.

When heat-sealed, the edges of the shrink sleeve naturally conform to the packaging surface, forming a "porous seal." Even the corners of odd-shaped gift boxes can be completely sealed by adjusting the heating temperature.

I once tested a jar for a client that sells handmade nuts. Nuts sealed in glass jars with PVC shrink tubing remained crispy after three months at room temperature, while unsealed nuts developed a slight rancid odor after just one month. This is a stark difference in heat-sealing performance.

PVC shrink wrap offers high transparency, allowing the appearance of the food inside to be clearly displayed after heat sealing. For example, shrink-wrapped cake gift boxes allow consumers to directly see the pattern and color of the cake, while sealed nut jars allow consumers to clearly see the fullness of the nuts. This type of "visual packaging" not only enhances the product's sophistication but also reduces consumer hesitation, indirectly boosting sales.

While PVC shrink tubing/sleeves offer excellent heat sealing performance, in practice, a few small details can maximize their performance:

Controlling the heating temperature: PVC shrink tubing of different thicknesses requires different heat sealing temperatures (generally between 120°C and 180°C). A temperature that is too low can result in incomplete shrinkage and a loose seal, while a temperature that is too high can cause the material to deform and scorch. It is recommended to test the optimal temperature on a small batch basis.

Choosing the appropriate thickness: Thin shrink tubing is suitable for small, lightweight packaging (such as individual snacks), while thicker materials (e.g., 0.15mm or thicker) are suitable for large gift boxes or packaging requiring greater protection (such as metal cans). Choosing the right thickness ensures better heat-sealing stability.

Clean the surface: Before heat sealing, ensure the surface of the packaged object is free of oil and dust. Otherwise, the shrink tubing will not fit the object properly and may cause the seal to fail. For example, if the outer surface of a nut jar is oily, bubbles may form in the shrink tubing after heat sealing, affecting the seal.

PVC shrink tubing and sleeves, with their excellent heat-sealing properties, high transparency, and cost-effectiveness, offer a practical and economical solution for ambient temperature food packaging. However, it's important to note that they are most suitable for products stored in dry environments. For high-humidity, high-fat foods (such as sauces and meats), they should be combined with other barrier materials (such as PA/PE or EVOH) to further enhance their protection.
